Dating is a delicate song and dance of attraction – a waltz that can come to an abrupt end with just one misplaced comment.
The same holds true in the world of marketing: listen to my band! buy my art! eat my food! There’s intense competition for our attention and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That being said, when both dating and marketing are done right it is magic.
Crunch Dynasty is a Richmond-based “crackling hot sauce” company that has it all: an exceptional product, sharp packaging, and wonderful people behind the scenes. They dropped a delicious hook, and I not only bit - but swallowed it whole.
My kitchen table is now always adorned with salt, pepper, and Crunch Dynasty, a blend of crunchy garlic, shallots, sesame seeds, chili peppers, and the like - basically everything I want my food to taste like all the time. It's an Asian topping that adds a spicy kick and amazing texture to everything, from the obvious sushi to the not-so-obvious pizza and mac and cheese.
I was first introduced to the product at a dinner party hosted by the husband and wife founders, John and Anya. I was flattered by the invitation but had no idea what to expect. Was this a formal event? Was it a sales pitch?
I felt a bit guarded but was quickly put at ease by the gracious hospitality and easy-going nature of the hosts. Everyone was open and friendly, and the evening was filled with engaging conversation about food. And speaking of food, every single thing I tasted was phenomenal. We ate raw oysters, Chinese tea eggs, chicken salad, potato-leek soup, grilled lamb chops, Chinese noodles, and even brownies and ice cream - all topped with Crunch Dynasty.
It was one of the most unexpectedly fun dinner parties I’ve attended. And although it was an event to promote a product, it felt completely genuine and warm. I even met Anya’s Chinese mother who started making the crunchy hot sauce because she missed the flavors of home. I left that night with a few new friends and an addiction to Crunch Dynasty.
Here’s an easy recipe for deviled eggs topped with Crunch Dynasty. Also, enter the giveaway (below) for a chance to win a bag.
Crunch Dynasty Deviled Eggs
- 12 eggs
- 1/2 mayonnaise (preferably Dukes)
- 2 teaspoons honey mustard
- 2 teaspoons white vinegar
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 clove garlic - crushed
- 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 4 green onions- greens finely chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/8 cup Crunch Dynasty
Place eggs in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil. Cook for 8 minutes after the water starts to boil. Place the eggs in an ice water bath to shock them (this makes them easier to peel). Once the eggs have cooled, peel.
Cut the eggs in half and remove the yolks, reserving both the yolks and whites. In a food processor, combine yolks, mayonnaise, honey mustard, vinegar, garlic powder, crushed garlic, brown sugar, and green onions. Process until smooth. Taste and add salt and pepper to your liking.
Put the yolk filling into a pastry bag and fill the egg whites with the mixture. You can also spoon the filling into the whites. Liberally top with Crunch Dynasty and garnish with green onion.
