Union Market is a neighborhood grocery store and sandwich shop that recently opened in Church Hill - Richmond’s most exciting food district.
The shop is located just a few short blocks from the Roosevelt, Sub Rosa Bakery, and Alamo BBQ, which are all some of my favorite eateries in the city. Union Market needed to bring its A-game if it was going to fit in among such excellence. I’m happy to say it stepped up to the plate and is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood.
Not only does the market have an impressive selection of locally sourced products, it also provides a comfortable dining area with a bar, coffee station, and sandwich counter. The owners did a wonderful job creating a space that seamlessly serves as a both a neighborhood hangout and corner market
While you're shopping you can buy a cup of Black Hand coffee or pick up a pound of whole beans for home.
All the sandwiches and salads cost between $7.25 and $8.50. I sampled both the veg and mortadella panini, which were served with a side of field greens with house vinaigrette. They were simple sandwiches done right - made with care and quality ingredients.
Union Market is just one more reason why, when my lease is up, I’m packing up and moving to Church Hill. I like to go where the food is good, and Church Hill is on a roll. If you’re in the neighborhood, I certainly recommend you check out Union Market.
